In Studio City, the price of air conditioning work depends on which job you are buying: a new system, a ductless unit or a repair. Studio AC Co. quotes each of them in writing, and you can request the quote or the visit for your job while you read.
Price by job
| Job | Price |
|---|---|
| New central AC, 2 to 4 tons | Written after the survey |
| Single-zone ductless, 12,000 BTU head | Around $3,600 installed |
| Multi-zone ductless, two to four heads | $12,000 to $24,000 |
| Two-pound refrigerant recharge | $239 to $600 |
| Coil leak repair | Often $1,200 to $3,600 |
| Compressor replacement | $1,400 to $3,600 |
The central line is for a code-compliant installation and depends on brand, SEER2 rating, and whether your ductwork needs modification or replacement. The ductless single-zone line starts at that figure and covers one indoor head and the outdoor compressor. Multi-zone depends on total capacity, refrigerant line lengths and wall penetration complexity.
Every figure becomes a written quote with your equipment, scope and permit lines before work starts.
Which job is yours
Pick the starting point that fits:
- The AC works but is failing the house. If it cools poorly, short cycles or is out, a diagnosis tells you whether a recharge or a coil repair is the fix.
- The AC is past repair. When the compressor is locked or the windings are open, replacement costs $1,400 to $3,600 for the part and labor, which is often more than half the price of a new outdoor condensing unit. That tips the decision toward a new system.
- The house has no ducts, or a room has no cooling. A ductless system skips the ductwork entirely.
You do not have to decide before you call. A visit sorts out the first two, and a survey prices the third.
Central or ductless
Central air suits a house with working ducts and a place to put the outdoor unit. Ductless suits additions, converted garages, rooms the ducts do not reach, and houses with no ducts at all. A single-zone setup cools one space. Multi-zone sets two to four indoor heads on one outdoor unit.
If you are not sure, ask for both on the same estimate. We write the two scopes side by side so you can compare. Details on the ductless mini split service show what a head and a line set involve.
What happens at the visit
For a repair, the tech checks the system, names the failure and gives you the price for that fix. You decide before work begins.
For an install, the tech runs a room-by-room load calculation, checks the ducts or the wall for the heads, looks at where the outdoor unit goes and writes the quote. Hillside lots off Laurel Canyon get a look at the pad, the line-set run and the road, because those change the labor.
Phones are answered 24/7 and same-day service is available for a dead system.
Permit, power and refrigerant
Replacing AC in California is permitted work. In Studio City LADBS issues the permit and inspects the install. LADWP is the electric utility, so the breaker and disconnect are checked at the survey. On duct work, Title 24 Part 6 can require duct sealing and a leakage test by a third-party HERS rater who is not the installer, depending on the scope.
New residential split AC and heat pump systems are made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32 since 1 Jan 2025. If your old system runs R-22, that refrigerant is no longer produced and repairs depend on reclaimed supply, which is another reason a replacement quote is worth having beside the repair quote.
What to send
An address, a photo of the outdoor unit label and a line on what is wrong or missing. That is enough to book the visit. See AC installation in Studio City for the install scope, and our Studio City page for the neighborhoods we serve.
FAQ
Do you work on air conditioning in Sherman Oaks and Glendale?
Yes. Sherman Oaks and Glendale are both part of the area we cover, with the same written quote. Is the diagnostic visit the same as a quote?
A repair visit ends with a price for the fix. An install survey ends with a written install quote. They are separate documents. Can I get ductless for one room only?
Yes. A single-zone system serves one space, and the single-zone price above is the starting point. What if the repair price is close to a new system?
Ask for both numbers. If the repair is near the cost of a replacement, the new system is the better spend, and the quote lays the two side by side. Can the AC and the furnace be done together?
Yes. Ask for heating on the same estimate and the shared ducts and electrical are priced once.Call about your air conditioning
